Answers To Our Most Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

DO YOU HAVE ANY PUPPIES OR ADULTS FOR SALE?

Please check out our "Puppies" page for any available puppies.  We DO NOT re-home our adult dogs.  We think of our dogues as family and after providing us with their best, whether in the show ring or the whelping box, we would never think of tossing them aside just because they can no longer provide a service to us.  Our retired adults serve as cushion warmers on our sofa :)

ARE YOUR DOGS HEALTH TESTED?

All of our dogs are subjected to the following health tests & are CHIC rated:  Cardio: Echo w/doppler, HIPS: OFA or PennHip, Shoulders, Elbows, Degenerative myelopathy and Canine Multifocal Retinopathy.  ALL Results are registered at http://www.offa.org  Any dog used for breeding must be cleared as Normal Heart, not be "Affected" for DM and CMR and have what we determine as an acceptable Hip/Elbow/Shoulder clearance.

***We are proud members of the AKC Bred with H.E.A.R.T program and the AKC Canine Health Foundation.

DO YOU OFFER A HEALTH GUARANTEE?

Our guarantee is simple :  If your puppy dies from a documented genetic disorder within one year of purchase we will replace your puppy or refund the purchase price...it's that simple. Unfortunately, this can be a touchy subject with a lot of breeders.  At GingerHaus we prefer to be plain spoken and upfront about our breed's health concerns.  You will not find a "guarantee" with 100 different exclusions, abstract wording, impossible to fulfill commitments or a demand that the dog be given a daily vitamin in order for our guarantee to be valid.

Because there has not been a definitive scientific causation of hip and elbow dysplasia, and the jury is still out as to if it is caused by genetic heredity, improper diet, exercise and environment and/or both we do not offer a hip or elbow guarantees.

HOW DO I ADOPT A GINGERHAUS PUPPY?

First you will need to contact us GingerHausddb@gmail.com and inform us of your interest in adopting one of our precious puppies.  We will request that you fill out our puppy questionnaire so that we can get to know you, your family and your situation better. This enables us to do a better job of matching you with your perfect "puppy fit".  Once puppies arrive, you will be notified and can watch their development through pictures and video.  When the puppies are about 8 weeks old we will decide who will be remaining at GingerHaus and who will be available to a new home.  If you are interested in one of the available puppies and we feel that you are a "match", you will be sent a puppy contract to review, sign and have notarized.   We require a vet reference and a stable home environment. We prefer homes with big breed experience (especially bully breeds).  We may require a home check.  We will NOT sell to anyone with a history of resale, seizure, neglect, abuse or fighting charges, regardless of length of time that has passed.  Puppies will be sold on an AKC Limited Registration unless otherwise approved.  We prefer PET homes and will only sell to show/breeding homes that have been fully vetted and approved.  We DO NOT accept credit cards, Paypal or Cashier's checks.  We accept USPS Money orders & cash ONLY as payment, in accordance with AKC a Bill of Sale is issued with any purchase.  A signed & notarized contract and full purchase price will be required before we will release puppy.

CAN I PICK THE PUPPY I WANT?

In the most simple terms, No. Please allow let me explain.  Our puppies are temperament tested twice before they are released to their new homes. When you fill out your puppy questionnaire it gives us an idea of what you are looking for, need, and are prepared for; it also tells us something about your lifestyle.  We take all this information about you & your family and utilize it in choosing the best puppy for your home.  We don't want to place a very active and rambunctious puppy in a family with babies or an older couple with a sedentary lifestyle, nor do we want to place a laid back and quiet puppy in a family with many children or a highly active lifestyle.  We've been doing this for awhile now and so far we have a perfect "match" rate.

I HEARD THERE WAS A WAITLIST, WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

Very simply put it means that we have several homes that are waiting for a GingerHaus puppy.  Most responsible breeders have a waitlist for their puppies.  We are not constantly breeding to make money, so we usually have more inquiries than puppies available. This is a great thing, for our puppies and their future owners, because it allows us to match-make the perfect "puppy/family" couple. Your "position" in the waitlist doesn't matter as we match puppies to the best qualified homes.  If you're a great home but are not matched to a puppy from the current litter you will be moved to a priority position on the next available litter.  We know at times this may require a bit of a wait, but we think our puppies are worth it and we hope you do, too!

WILL YOU SHIP MY PUPPY TO ME?

NO.  We will NOT ship your puppy unescorted.  We will happily allow you to fly in, pick up your puppy and fly back home, however, we will not ship your puppy in a cargo environment.  This is a personal decision of ours.  DDB can overheat easily and even the most conscientious airlines have the occasional "accident" when shipping live animals.  It's just not a chance we are willing to take.  We prefer to meet our new puppy owners in person anyway.  However, if you cannot come to us, we may make arrangements to bring your puppy to you ourselves.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT WHEN I ADOPT A GINGERHAUS PUPPY?

You should expect a lot of love!  A new puppy can be a wonderful thing, if you're prepared...it can also be a nightmare if you're not.  Before considering bringing a new puppy into your home you should be certain that ALL family members want the responsibility of a new pet.  You should be financially prepared for your new family member.  You should be able to afford regular veterinary trips, vaccinations, monthly heartworm costs, licenses, food, crates, bedding, etc.  Puppies are very expensive...and worth every penny!   Dogue de Bordeaux are infamous for being mischievous, new puppies will chew, tear, explore and otherwise entertain you...IF you are not a fan of drool, shedding and mischief we recommend you choose another breed.  Dogue de Bordeaux are the clowns of the Canine genre and are notorious for their antics..they need homes with lots of patience, understanding and a good sense of humor.  Realize that your precious 20 lb pup will one day be a 130+ lb adult!  Those of us who are fortunate enough to have one of these characters to share our home will tell you it's well worth the cost of admission to have the love and devotion of these stubborn, protective, loving and funny beasts <3

WHAT COMES WITH A GINGERHAUS PUPPY?

All GingerHaus puppies come with AKC Limited Registration and we pay your fees and electronically file your paperwork for you, so you know your puppy is registered before you leave our home. Your GingerHaus puppy will also come with an AKC Reunite microchip and we pay your lifetime enrollment in the program, so you have no annual fees!  We also provide you with a tag with your microchip number, one "previously loved" toy, one new toy and a blanket that smells like mom and siblings, a puppy kit folder with hints and tips and other goodies. And best of all we provide you with a family of other GingerHaus DDB owners and lifetime support from us.
